This number varies each year. We breed with our girls' natural cycles. We do not attempt to begin or increase their cycles with any artificial means. Also, since we work full time while also running our ranch and keeping up with our sons, there are times when we choose not to breed our females when they cycle.
Yes, we have been inspected by AKC. There were no negative findings during the inspection, and the inspection document can be viewed by clicking on the link https://acrobat.adobe.com/link/review?uri=urn:aaid:scds:US:aa9e2212-0aa6-3526-b6d0-567c32d9ec7e.
We accept a wide variety of payment methods to meet the needs of our clients. We accept Venmo, cashier's checks, as well as cash. Arrangements can be made fort personal or business checks to be accepted. We do accept PayPal, but we must charge a service charge due to the high percentage that PayPal takes of the payment. We have found Venmo to be safe, very easy to set up, and allows buyers to use their credit cards to make payment.
Yes, of course! We would love to show you any litters we currently have (assuming they are old enough) as well as the adult dogs we have onsite at the time. However, we ask that you make an appointment by calling or emailing us. Our business is also our home, so we ask that you let us know that you would like to visit.
Absolutely. We can help you make arrangements for ground transportation or for a flight nanny. There are Hickory Creek pups living in almost every state, including Alaska, as well as Canada. Sometimes clients fly in to Tulsa International Airport to pick up their puppy. If our schedule allows, we will meet you at the airport with your puppy before your return flight. If we cannot meet you there, clients normally rent a vehicle and make the drive to us to pick up their puppy. On occasion, we are able to fly with your puppy to your local airport. This requires the buyer to purchase our round trip flight ticket and reimburse us for travel expenses, such as meals. There are many ways to get your Hickory Creek Puppy home safely.
The litter is registered with the AKC after it is born. It is up to you to register your individual pup with the AKC. This allows you to choose your puppy's registered name and for your puppy's microchip to be registered at the same time. It is very important that you register your puppy even if you do not plan to show or compete with your puppies Registration is an important part of helping preserve the history of this magnificent American breed. You will be provided with an AKC registration packet on puppy take home day or by mail, if the packets don’t arrive before you take your new family member home. From there, you can complete the packet and register your individual pup.
Yes, please. We ask that you use Hickory Creek at the first of your pup's name, as this helps people to identify dogs in the future that come from our lines. It is considered good etiquette to use the kennel name of the breeder in your puppy's name.
We recommend crate training, where the pup spends an hour or two in the crate, and an hour or two out, playing and socializing. We also suggest you utilize a quality trainer or training facility for obedience training. The first training goal for your new puppy should be to achieve the AKC S.T.A.R. puppy title. You can find more information about this at https://www.akc.org/products-services/training-programs/canine-good-citizen/akc-star-puppy/The AKC.org website--https://www.apps.akc.org/cgc-evaluator/#/ offers a list of AKC approved trainers. If you are going to train your dog for hunting, we ask that you wait until your dog is at least 6 months of age. We can also help you locate a reputable trainer that is familiar to the Chesapeake breed.
